Site Design Resources
Every Web site is a publication,
and readers approach publications with two fundamental needs:
to find specific information,
and to be given an opinion, to be informed on what's important.
That's the job of content.
Everyone agrees site
design and content are central to the success of a Web site.
It is also important
to understand, that putting up a "useful" website or a site that others
will
want to visit, requires
a commitment of those responsible for it, to keep it updated and useful.

Useful sites & articles,
for designing websites that can be viewed
and used by "most everyone"
visiting your site.
Once you have created
a page:
To understand and see
how your visitors will View your pages -
Please - VIEW Your Completed
Pages in Different Browsers,
(Internet Explorer, Netscape
-old and newer versions)
different monitors -
your friends systems, from your workplace systems
And make note of load
time and check that Tables & Frames
Look the way you intended.
Just because it looks
good on your machine
Doesn't mean all visitors
from all systems/browserswill view it the same way!!!
And using "fancy and or
unusual" FONTS Can often cause problems
Unless the viewer - looking
at your pages has the Same FONT installed
on their Computer they
"Will Not" See it! As you had intended.
They will view the page
seeing a standard Default Font.
To play it safe Use a
Standard FONT such as Arial, Helvetica
or Times New Roman for
this page I am using Arial with a font size of -1.
and also note that you
can create "graphics" with any font you choose if you really
want to jazz up your
pages with unusual fonts. Graphics created with tools such as I use
XaraWebstyle
can be optimized for quick loading.

Domain
Names & Hosting
Once you've learned how
to create basic web pages you'll want a place
to Post them to the Internet
There are several spots
that will HOST you for FREE
FREE Space - most often
comes with Advertising, Banner Ads, etc.
These 2 particular sites
below come with NO BANNER ADS!!
You buy a DOMAIN NAME
and they will HOST YOUR SITE FOR FREE!!
These are great for sites
that are "personal" or low traffic sites.
DO NOT USE these FREE
hosting/No ADs options if you have a business site
or expect alot of traffic.
- Although each site offers "pay for" hosting options
that you can upgrade
to.

To

Costs and Service
Plans - vary across the Net.
Low
Cost sites offer Considerable Value!
Examine the program,
read the fine print, e-mail the Host provider,
see what kind of response
you get, test their knowledge,
See if their support
team would be able to accomodate your needs.
Most programs offer much
more than a Beginner needs,
and unless you plan on
putting up an Extensive site, that will
be updated often with
content, etc. - You are probably
best off with a FREE
website either from your own ISP,
or a Free site (Such
as Yahoo/Geocities,) from an Online
Provider
Check with your own Internet
Provider and ask if they can
Host your "namehere domain".com
PLEASE NOTE: on many
FREE sites you are only alloted a small amount
of Bandwidth or traffic
allowance. And even pay for hosting services
have bandwidth allotments
-
Here
are excerpts quoted from online websites that will help you
understand about bandwidth:
What is bandwidth?
When you buy a web hosting
plan, generally you have limited bandwith
available for your website.
Bandwidth is the amount of data transferred
when your website is
accessed. e.g. if you home page size is 10K ( k - kilobytes )
and it has an image of
size 50k, then when your website home page is display,
a total of 10k+50k=60k
bandwidth is used.
Some hostings provide
unlimited bandwidth usage.
The more the better.
If your website has lot
of traffic, then you can easily uses bandwidth in GigaBytes.
More definitions
- What is bandwidth?
A measurement of the amount
of data that can be transmitted over a network at any given time.
The higher the network's
bandwidth, the greater the volume of data that can be transmitted.
www.oit.ohio-state.edu/glossary/
The rate at which you
can send or receive information through your connection to the Internet.
The range of transmission
frequencies a network can use.
The greater the bandwidth
the more information that can be transferred
over that network at
one time. The term bandwidth also broadly includes throughput,
meaning the amount of
data sent

- You DO NOT NEED - to purchase a Domain name to have a Website-
Some
sites such as Yahoo/Geocities let you pick a user name and you can
create
a site, easily online for FREE, (your site will have ads).
And
be sure to check with your own Internet Service Provider, they
may

At its core, BK ReplaceEm is essentially a text

However, unlike the search-replace functionality

BK ReplaceEm is designed to operate on multiple
files at once. And you
need not only perform one search-replace operation
per file -- you can setup
a list of operations to perform. If different
groups of files need
to have different operations performed on them,
this is no problem either.
You can also specify a backup file for each
file processed just incase
the replace operation didn’t do exactly what
you wanted.

And don't forget that
most wordprocessing, or
slide presentation programs
(like power point) also allow you to save your
creations, as HTML web
pages. Just remember to upload
all graphics/photos,
images, that are associated with your documents, or slides to your website
server.
If you don't upload each
image you have on your web page, your visitors will not see them.
If you just want to share
photos with family and friends, but don't want
to keep such large image
