Summer Reading Program 2002 Links
http://www.cplrmh.com/SRP2002.html
This page was composed for the State Library's Summer Reading Program Workshop in Columbus, Ohio on January 24, 2002. The theme is "Your Library: The Greatest Show in Town" and this presentation focused on online and independent programs. Online programs are independent programs, too, and most of these ideas and resources can be used online or in the YA room on a bulletin board or on paper. All sites were valid 5/9/02. rmh

To help address the critical need to improve reading skills among the area's youth, the Los Angeles Public Library has developed several outreach programs, each of which depends on contributions raised by the Library Foundation:http://www.libraryfoundationla.org/funding/reading.html

If your program is going to have an
Online WebSite (you can include a bulletin board,
for teens to post comments about books they read, etc.)
and if you aren't familiar with making web pages
see my Webpublishing help page
And I have a page with resources for learning how to create "subscription" lists
listservs, online groups, newsletters - etc.
on my page about subscribing to popular library lists.

I have a book reading online & off page too,  to explore

Sizzling Summer Reading Programs for Young Adults. Edited by Katherine L. Kan and YALSA
A good summer reading program is sure to attract those who love to read, but a sizzling summer reading program will entice a new teen audience - even those who wouldn't normally dream of "hanging out" at the library. The book is organized by incentives, thematic programs, novelties, participation, and teens with special needs. There are also illustrations of promotional materials used in the programs described.

From the Publisher
Collected here are 50 highly successful summer reading programs for grades K–7. Each highly flexible plan is developed around a specific theme (art, baseball, geography, zoos, and so on), providing fifteen related activities (bulletin boards, reading incentive games, etc.) and a materials list. A theme-related reading list—with fiction for younger readers (K–3) and older readers (4–7) and nonfiction titles—is included. A film and video list completes the program.
