The Staying Connected Grant Program represents a new and final component of Gates Library Partnership Grants. The goal and focus of the Staying Connected Grant Program is sustainability. The four grant categories are designed to provide the state library agency with the opportunity to leverage the foundation's previous grants to public libraries and to strengthen the state library agency's position in promoting on-going support for the sustainability of public access computing in libraries.

Funding a New Training Center
Believe it or not, you can still draw lessons from classic children's stories such as The Little Engine That Could. Witness how the underfunded public law library in this article managed to create partnerships and raise enough money to build a state-of-the-art training center for its users. You'll see just how far you can get on the "I think I can!" attitude.

Small Library, Big Fundraising: Community Support Is Way Above Par
You don't have to be a pro to master fundraising, as this resort-town public library discovered. Its all-volunteer staff hosted flea markets, raffles, and benefit golf tournaments to raise money, and one volunteer even learned how to write successful grant proposals. They proved that with strong community support, every penny really adds up.

Fundraising beyond book sales and bake sales
by Janet L. Balas
Abstract
ONLINE TREASURES column focuses on fundraising activities to balance a library budget.
Notes that book sales, often accompanied by bake sales, are time-honored traditions
and may raise respectable amounts of money while serving as a social event to
bring people into the building. However, says that a more comprehensive approach
is needed and looks to the Web to find sources of information.
Offers a list of state library Web sites to assist librarians and
library officials with their fundraising strategies.
**Adds that the ALA has also devoted a
section of its Web site to fundraising along with a link to the
LAMA (Library Administration and Management Association) Fund Raising
and Financial Development Section
Describes fundraising projects and provides a list of the resources discussed (p54).

Using Your Library web site to encourage donors to donate
Points to  remember:
Remind donors what the "funds" raised will be funding, and how it will benefit "them".
Keep photographs small enough to be sure the pages load fast. (use graphic software to control size)
Be creative in your writing, keep it short and simple.
Most web visitors don't want to read or click through many pages,  put all pertinent information
on one page.
Make sure the page stays current, and keep visitors aware of how far you have come, and have to go
in your fund raising goals.
Make it easy to donate, give options for donating:
checks, money orders, credit cards, goods & services.
Be sure to have a "thank you" page appear after a person has submitted a donation per your website.
If you have partnered with local businesses or corporations, make sure that information/ and logos, about them is included.
*donors usually appreciate and/or expect free advertising*
